Cantor: God, come to my assistance. All: LORD, make haste to help me. Cantor: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: All: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia.

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul! What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, to bear the dreadful curse for my soul? To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing, to God and to the Lamb, I will sing; to God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM - while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing; while millions join the theme, I will sing. And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on, and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on; and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be, and through eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on, and through eternity I’ll sing on.

When he took the three disciples To the mountainside to pray, His countenance was modified, his clothing was aflame. Two men appeared: Moses and Elijah came; They were at his side. The prophecy, the legislation spoke of whenever he would die. Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD! May the name of the LORD be blest both now and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting, praised be the name of the LORD! High above all nations is the LORD, above the heavens his glory. Who is like the LORD, our God, who dwells on high, who lowers himself to look down upon heaven and earth? From the dust he lifts up the lowly, from the ash heap he raises the poor, to set them in the company of princes, yes, with the princes of his people. To the childless wife he gives a home as a joyful mother of children. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever.

Then there came a word Of what he should accomplish on the day. Then Peter spoke, to make of them a tabernacle place. A cloud appeared in glory as an accolade. They fell on the ground. A voice arrived, the voice of God, The face of God, covered in a cloud. O praise the LORD, all you nations; acclaim him, all you peoples! For his merciful love has prevailed over us; and the LORD faithfulness endures forever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever.

What he said to them, The voice of God: the most beloved son. Consider what he says to you, consider what's to come. The prophecy was put to death, Was put to death, and so will the Son. And keep your word, disguise the vision 'till the time has come. Salvation, glory, and power to our God: Alleluia, Alleluia. his judgments are honest and true. Alleluia, Alleluia. Sing praise to our God, all you his servants, Alleluia, Alleluia. all you who worship him, great and small. Alleluia, Alleluia. The LORD our all-powerful God is King; Alleluia, Alleluia. let us rejoice, sing praise, and give him glory. Alleluia, Alleluia. The wedding feast of the Lamb has begun, Alleluia, Alleluia. and his bride is prepared to welcome him. Alleluia, Alleluia. Lost in the cloud, a voice. Have no fear! We draw near! Lost in the cloud, a sign. Son of man! Turn your ear. Lost in the cloud, a voice. Lamb of God! We draw near! Lost in the cloud, a sign. Son of man! Son of God!

Magnificat 02:24
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.

2 Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. 3 The company of prophets[a] who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent.” 4 Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. 5 The company of prophets[b] who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know; be silent.” 6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. 7 Fifty men of the company of prophets[c] also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. 8 Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground. 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I may do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” 10 He responded, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you; if not, it will not.” 11 As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha kept watching and crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.

JTC III 06:29

In the presence of his disciples our Savior was wonderfully transfigured on Mount Tabor. Let us pray to him with confidence: All: Lord, in your light may we see light. O Christ, before your passion and death you revealed your resurrection to your disciples on Mount Tabor; we pray for your church which labors amid the cares and anxieties of this world, All: -that in its trials may it always be. transfigured by the joy of your victory. O Christ, you took Peter, James and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves; we pray for all bishops, pastors and deacons, All: -that they may inspire in your people the hope of being transfigured at the last day. O Christ, upon the mountaintop you let the light of your face shine over Moses and Elijah, All: - we ask your blessing upon the Jewish people; of old you called them to be your chosen nation. O Christ, you gave light to the world when the glory of the Creator arose over you, All: we pray for people of good will, that they may walk in your light. O Christ, you will reform our lowly body and make it like your glorious one, All: - we pray for our brothers and sisters who have died, that they may share in your glory forever.

Our Father 02:53
Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
12.
Seeing your glory in the face of your Son, Hearing his words, and knowing what he has done, Now we pray that just what we behold In him we may become. That, as the prophets spoke in days long before, We may be heirs through faith with him we adore: With the Spirit and with you he reigns Now and forever more.

about

Composer and pianist J.J. Wright’s newest CD featuring the J.J. Wright Trio, Vespers for the Feast of the Transfiguration, is now available for pre-order and will be released on August 4th, 2017. Recorded live at Saint Peter’s Church in NYC as part of their celebrated “Jazz Vespers” series, Wright’s Vespers is a contemporary take on the traditional Christian Liturgy of the Hours, which is prayed daily by religious and lay persons around the world. The album incorporates contemporary jazz into the familiar Vespers form, resulting in a holistic listening and worship experience.

Listeners can expect the trio, which includes bassist Ike Sturm and drummer Nate Wood, to create a revolutionary blend of Gregorian Chant psalm tones, recognizable hymns and even popular artist Sufjan Stevens’ "The Transfiguration". Drawing from the documents of Vatican II and Pope Francis’ most recent exhortation to artists to sacred musicians, the service is designed to encourage all congregational members toward “full, conscious, and active participation”, regardless of musical ability. The mix of the familiar and the novel demands listener’s interest and draws them into a new encounter with an ancient form of prayer. Fr. James Martin, Jesuit priest and author of "Jesus: A Pilgrimage", notes: "I love J.J. Wright's glorious music, and his new Transfiguration Vespers are composed and performed in his inimitable style: lively, prayerful and inspiring, artfully mixing both the traditional and modern. He's one of the most talented and creative musicians working today.”

J.J. Wright made waves with his trio and Fifth House Ensemble in 2016 with the debut of O Emmanuel, a Christmas oratorio written for the University of Notre Dame Children’s Choir and distributed by Dynamic Catholic. Wright’s other projects include Inward Looking Outward featuring the J.J. Wright Trio and We Turn Around with experimental group Turn Around Norman.

In 2016, a documentary style film by the same name was featured on Salt and Light Television and Catholic TV. Vespers, directed by Tom Sandak, will continue to be broadcast through additional television partnerships and at 2017 film festivals. More information can be found at: www.transfigurationvespers.com
